Step into the past at the Block Island Historical Society Museum, where the island's history comes to life. We're open during the summer season, from Memorial Day to Indigenous Peoples Day, welcoming visitors from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission can be conveniently purchased in our Museum Shop.

Explore at your own pace with our self-guided tour, or for a more in-depth experience, arrange guided tours for individuals and school groups in advance for an additional fee. Our museum is housed in the historic Woonsocket house, occupying the first two floors. Inside, you'll find captivating exhibits showcasing the island's geological formation, Indigenous peoples, Victorian life, and the importance of historic preservation.

Accessibility

At the Block Island Historical Society Museum, we are committed to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to explore and enjoy the island's rich history. While much of our collection is housed on the second floor, we've taken steps to make our museum as accessible as possible.

For those who are unable to access the second floor, we offer a specially curated video showcasing highlights from our collection, allowing you to experience the essence of Block Island's past from the ground level.

Additionally, we provide a handicapped ramp and designated handicapped parking spaces, ensuring a convenient and comfortable visit for all guests. To make the most of your visit and to arrange any necessary accommodations, please don't hesitate to call ahead. We are here to assist you in having an enriching and accessible museum experience.

GUIDELINES

Food and Drink: Please refrain from bringing food or drinks on the second floor of the museum.

Pets: With the exception of registered service animals, pets are not permitted on the premises.

Smoke-Free Environment: The Block Island Historical Society is a smoke-free property. Smoking, including the use of e-cigarettes, is strictly prohibited.

Children: All children under the age of 12 must be supervised by an adult at all times.

Photography: Visitors are welcome to take photographs for personal, non-commercial use unless otherwise indicated in specific galleries. The use of tripods, free-standing lights, and similar equipment is not permitted inside Museum buildings.

Media Consent: By being present on our campus, you grant your consent to be photographed, filmed, and/or recorded for BI communications and related outreach activities, which may include publications and online content. Your consent remains valid in perpetuity.
